Located at 6 Duke Street, St James’s, Bowman Sculpture is the premier gallery for sculptures by Auguste Rodin.
Bowman Sculpture is dedicated to showcasing the finest examples of sculpture ranging from the 19th century to the present day. The gallery exhibits works by European Romantic masters as well as significant sculptures from the New School period. Our collection also includes exceptional examples of Impressionist, Modern, and Cubist sculptures as well as significant works by Modern British artists.
In recent years the gallery has modernised its approach to focus more on contemporary sculpture both well-established and emerging artists worldwide. Specialising in innovative and thought-provoking works which are grounded in traditional techniques and materials, the gallery features a diverse range of styles and mediums, from abstract and figurative pieces to large-scale installations and environmental sculptures.

Auguste Rodin
Auguste Rodin is considered to be one of the greatest artists of all times, as well as the greatest sculptor of the 19th- and 20th-century. The artist left his studio in Paris, the Hôtel Biron, in his will to the French State, now known as the Musée Rodin, housing the largest collection of his work as a sculptor and draughtsman. The artist’s work is represented in major Museums and important private collections throughout the world. Rodin’s will expressed his desire that the French State kept editing the bronze casts of his works, contributing to the gravity of his legacy.
Camille Claudel
Born in 1864 in northern France, Camille Claudel was a French sculptor who was not fully appreciated during her lifetime but has since become world-renowned for her unique figurative works in bronze and marble. Claudel now has her own museum, the Camille Claudel Museum in Nogent-sur-Seine, and her works are considered integral to any serious collection of sculpture from this period. She is also widely known for her controversial, and ultimately tragic, love affair with Auguste Rodin, which has been highlighted by two films, Camille Claudel and Rodin, along with numerous books.
Gustinus Ambrosi
Gustinus Ambrosi, despite his Italian descent, was born in Eisenstadt, Austria, in February 1893. His initial passion for music was unfortunately hindered by a childhood illness that caused him to lose his hearing at the age of seven. Instead, Ambrosi focused his creative and artistic talents on drawing and sculpture. Much of his time was spent crafting hundreds of plaster models, which displayed an unusually mature quality from early on.
Aimé-Jules Dalou
Aimé-Jules Dalou was born in Paris in 1838. He began his artistic career as a student of Carpeaux and Duret at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he met Auguste Rodin. He debuted at the Paris Salon in 1861, exhibiting the piece Dame romaine jouant aux osselets (‘A Roman Lady Playing Jacks’). He then developed a highly personalised sculptural style, focusing on the depiction of female figures in day-to-day tasks. The success of such models was crowned when Dalou received critical acclaim and a third-class medal for the sculpture Brodeuse (‘The Embroiderer’), at the Paris Salon of 1870.
Frederic Lord Leighton
Frederic Lord Leighton was one of the most prolific and influential artists in Victorian Britain. Born in Scarborough, he studied and worked in Europe before settling in London in 1859. He became an associate member of the Royal Academy in 1864, and a Royal Academician in 1868. He was elected president of the RA in 1878. Although Leighton is primarily known for his paintings, he was also a fundamental figure in the development of late Victorian sculptural aesthetics.
Henry Moore
As a schoolboy, Moore showed a talent for art but was encouraged by his family to train as a teacher, as they feared he would not make a great living at what they considered manual labour. Moore found little pleasure in teaching, however, and signed up to serve in the British Army during World War I. He was exposed to a gas attack by German forces at the Battle of Cambrai and was invalided from his service.
Massimiliano Pelletti
Massimiliano Pelletti (Born. 1975) is an Italian stone carver who lives and works in Pietrasanta, Italy, a hometown he shares with Michelangelo. Pelletti initially began his journey as a sculptor in his family’s artisan workshop and was inspired and taught by his grandfather, a sculptor in his own right and who, in his time, worked on the infamous restoration of Michelangelo’s Pietà in The Vatican. Many of Massimiliano’s sculptures are inspired by the collection of plaster classical models inherited from his grandfather’s Glyptotheque.
Joanna Allen
Joanna Allen is an English sculptor working primarily in bronze, marble, clay, and plaster. Her training was both academic and atelier, guided by many influential and international figurative sculptors.
Joanna began drawing and working with clay consistently in 2008, before attending workshops in Wales under the tutelage of Welsh sculptor, Simon Cooley. During this time, Joanna worked instinctively with life models and focused primarily on developing the deep connection between the self and the material; something which has been an integral part of her style ever since.
Hanneke Beaumont
Hanneke Beaumont was born in Maastricht, the Netherlands. She undertook the majority of her artistic studies in Belgium, first at the Académie de Braine l’Alleud. She then focused predominantly on sculpture at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de La Cambre and at the Hogere Rijksschool voor Beeldende Kunsten in Anderlecht.
Maurice Blik
Maurice Blik was born to Jewish parents in Amsterdam in 1939, during the Second World War. In 1943, at the age of four, Blik’s father was sent to Auschwitz, while Blik, his sister pregnant mother and grandmother were sent to the notorious Bergen Belsen concentration camp. Blik experienced a lifetime of unimaginable tragedy and horrors until being liberated with his mother and oldest sister in 1945 by the Cossacks.
Emily Young
Emily Young has been hailed as “Britain’s greatest living stone sculptor” by the Financial Times. She was born in London into a family of writers, artists, politicians and adventurers. Her grandmother was the sculptor Kathleen Scott, a colleague of Auguste Rodin and widow of the explorer Captain Scott of the Antarctic.
